Notes: Japan's first prefecture-level percentage tax: 2% of the per-person room-only rate, capped at 2,000 yen. The tax base is rounded down to the nearest 1,000 yen (1,000円未満切捨, e.g. an 8,500 yen stay is taxed as 8,000 → 160 yen) and capped at 100,000 yen — the 2,000 yen tax cap encodes the base cap. In Miyakojima, Ishigaki, Onna, Motobu and Chatan the prefectural rate is 0.8% plus a municipal 1.2% — use their dedicated entries. Nago City got MIC consent 2026-06-30 for its own additional 1.2% (cap 1,200 yen; formal 施行 2027-02-01 in the consent documents, but the city communicates a levy start around 2027-05) — it will become a dedicated entry once the levy start date is confirmed.
